Spike in Covid-19 cases in tricity

On Wednesday, 239 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Chandigarh, taking the tally to 4,789. This is the first time that the city has crossed the 2,000 mark in active cases. Two deaths were also reported taking the death toll to 59.

As many as 2,670 patients have been cured till date and 2,057 cases are active.

In Mohali, 160 new Covid cases and four deaths were reported, taking the district’s tally to 89 deaths and 4,093 cases. Two of Wednesday’s four deaths happened at Chandigarh Hospitals.

A 20-year-old woman died at Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32—the youngest fatality of the day. Meanwhile, 43 patients were discharged bringing down the number of active patients to 1,822.

The cases include 55 from Mohali city, 29 from Kharar, 5 from Boothgarh, 33 from Dhakoli, 6 from Dera Bassi, 31  from Gharuan and one from Lalru.

In Mohali urban (55), Gharuan (31), Kharar (29), Dhakoli (33), Dera Bassi (6), Boothgarh (5) and Lalru (1) all reported new COVID-19 cases.

In Panchkula, 135 fresh Covid-19 cases were reported, taking the tally to 2,544.

About 990 cases are active and 1,531 patients have been discharged.

As many as 23 cases were reported from Pinjore, 22 from Raipur Rani, 15 from Kalka, 10 from Sec 4 of MDC, 7 from Surajpur and Sector 26, 6 from Sector 19 and Morni, 4 from Devi Nagar and Sector 21.
