Chitkara Student Protest: University Refutes False Social Media Claims of Suicide and Death, Clarifies Facts
Chandigarh: Chitkara University has issued a clarification regarding reels, posts and messages circulating on social media about an alleged suicide or death at the University’s Girls’ Hostel.
The University has stated that no suicide or death has taken place at the Girls’ Hostel and that the claims being shared online are not based on facts.
Clarifying the presence of an ambulance at the hostel, the University said that it arrived during the early hours of 24 September in connection with a student who was returning from the hospital. The student, Sachipreet Kaur (Roll No. 2520996056), staying in Room No. 327, was brought back to the hostel at around 2:50 a.m. The University clarified that there was no death or suicide connected with the incident.
The University also addressed social media posts mentioning the presence of a Pandit ji at the Girls’ Hostel. According to the University, he had visited the hostel at around 3:00 p.m. to meet his daughter, who is a student at the University. His visit was unrelated to any alleged death or suicide.
Chitkara University has requested students, parents, members of the media and the public to avoid sharing or relying on unverified information circulating through social media. The University said that such posts can create unnecessary concern among students and their families when shared without checking the facts.
The University reiterated that the safety, wellbeing and privacy of its students remain a priority and that appropriate mechanisms are in place to address genuine concerns.
It also said that it is taking note of misleading content being circulated online and will take appropriate steps, wherever required, to safeguard the interests of its students and the institution.
Chitkara University has appealed to everyone to verify information through official and credible sources before sharing it, particularly when it relates to the safety and wellbeing of students.
