Uttarakhand family decorates home, celebrates daughter’s period by cutting cake

A family in Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh Nagar celebrated their daughter’s first period by cutting a cake. Jitendra Bhatt, a resident of Udham Singh Nagar’s Kashipur city, decorated his home with balloons to celebrate his daughter’s first period.A music teacher by profession, Jitendra Bhatt, took such a step to give a message to society that “menstruation is the most sacred religion in the world”.

“When I was young, I did not know much about it. As I grew older, I noticed that women and girls were looked down upon for having periods or even talking about it. If a woman touches anything at this time, then it is considered impure. I thought of celebrating my daughter’s first period to remove all these misconceptions. It is not a disease of impurity or untouchability but a day of happiness,” said the father of the girl.Locals are also happy with Jitendra’s initiative and said that this initiative will pay off and will help in getting rid of the misconception that girls during periods become “impure”.
