IPL 2024 Gears Up for Remainder of Season

Cricket fans in India, rejoice! The anticipated full schedule for the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 was released on March 25th by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This announcement follows the initial release of the first 21 matches, taking into account the upcoming general elections.

The remaining 53 matches will see the IPL caravan travel across the length and breadth of India, ensuring a cricketing extravaganza in various cities. 

Here are some key highlights:

  • Chennai Super Kings vs. Kolkata Knight Riders Kickstart Second Phase: The defending champions, CSK, will get into battle with their arch-rivals KKR in the season’s first match after the break on April 8th at the iconic M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai
  • Shifting Home Venues: Several teams will be switching for their remaining home games. Delhi Capitals return to their beloved Arun Jaitley Stadium after playing their initial two home matches in Vishakhapatnam. Similarly, Punjab Kings will conclude their home campaign at the picturesque Dharamshala stadium, hosting CSK and RCB on May 5th and 9th, respectively. Rajasthan Royals will also treat their fans in the Northeast with a double-header in Guwahati for their final two home matches 
  • Ahemdabad Gears Up for Playoffs: The pulsating journey towards the championship will culminate in Ahemdabad. The Narendra Modi Stadium, known for its electrifying atmosphere, will be the center stage for Qualifier 1(May 21st) and the Eliminator (May 22nd). These matches will witness the top-ranked teams battling for a spot in the finale, while others fight for a second chance via the Eliminator.
  • Chennai Gears Up for Finale: Cricket fever will return to Chennai as the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium gears up for Qualifier 2 (May 24th) and the grand finale on May 26th. Will CSK be able to defend their title on home soil?

March 25th wasn’t just about the full schedule announcement. It also witnesses a thrilling encounter between Royal Challenger Banglore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Bengaluru.

Desperate for their first win, RCB finally broke the jinx with a nail-biting 4-wicket victory over PBKS. Chasing a challenging target of 177 runs, Virat Kohli emerged as the hero of the match with a well-composed 78 off 54 balls. His innings, laced with boundaries and sixes, anchored the chase and earned him the Player of the Match award.

Openers Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell provided a solid foundation at the top. While the middle order faltered briefly, Kohli took control, stitching crucial partnerships with Dinesh Karthik and Shahbaz Ahmed to ensure victory for the home side.

On the bowling front, Harshal Patel starred with a brilliant 3/27. Wanindu Hasaranga and Mohammad Siraj also chipped in with crucial wickets, restricting PBKS and paving the way for RCB’s first win.
