The National Commission for Women (NCW) did not act upon the complaint filed on June 12 on behalf of women who were paraded naked in Manipur.There was fresh tension after the May 4 video surfaced on July 19, showing two women from the Kuki community being paraded naked by a group of men. They were forced to march towards a paddy field, where one of them was allegedly gang-raped. There was no action in the case for over 70 days.
Heradas, the main accused, was arrested in Thoubal district with the help of the viral video in which he was seen wearing a green T-shirt. His house was burnt down amid outrage over the incident.Two activists and the North American Manipur Tribal Association had spoken to the survivors before filing the complaint with the NCW. However, they did not receive any response from the NCW.
