Actor Ranveer Singh has recently taken legal action against a social media account for promoting a manipulated video featuring him. The video in question, known as a deep fake, presents genuine visuals of the actor alongside altered audio, purportedly expressing political opinions
Singh’s spokesperson confirmed the filing of a police complaint and the subsequent lodging of an FIR against the handle responsible for distributing the AI-generated deepfake. This action follows the circulation of the video on various social media platforms.
The deepfake emerged following Singh’s appearance as the showstopper at a fashion event in Varanasi, organised by designer Manish Malhotra. During his visit to the city, Singh commended the infrastructural improvements and shared his positive experiences.
Upon discovering the deepfake video, Singh addressed the issue indirectly through an Instagram post cautioning against the dangers of deepfake technology. Although the post did not directly reference the circulating clip, it was a response to his emergence.
Fans of the actor can anticipate his return as Simmba in Rohit Shetty’s upcoming cop drama, “Singham Again,” alongside a star-studded cast including Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, and Tiger Shroff. Additionally, Singh is set to lead the cast of Farhan Akhtar’s “Don 3” slated for release in 2025.
Singh’s most recent on-screen appearance was in Karan johar’s “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani,” co-starring Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi, among others.
The emergence of deepfake technology poses significant challenges, particularly concerning its potential to manipulate and misrepresent individuals. Singh’s proactive response underscores the importance of addressing such misuse and highlights the ongoing battle against misinformation in the digital age.
