PU: AC Joshi Library to open for research scholars next week

Panjab University’s (PU’s) AC Joshi Library has decided to open its doors for research students from next week. Scholars can borrow books but sitting sessions are not allowed.

Last week, PU gave permission to the researcher scholars to come to the laboratory. Subsequently, librarian Jivesh Bansal of the AC Joshi Library had a meeting with PU administrative officials to open the library. However, the order has not been given in writing.

The facility will be available for:

  • Only research scholars enrolled for more than three years and have been given permission to visit the departments and laboratories of the varsity.
  • Scholars of humanities departments can visit only with the permission of their supervisors.
  • Chairpersons of respective departments will provide a list of permitted scholars to the library.

The AC Joshi Library has a large reading room with three floors where more than 500 students can sit together and study. The library has volumes of over 6 lakh books. Apart from this, the library has a collection of over 6.4 lakh publications including books, journals, dissertations, rare books, reports, government documents, newspapers, past files and a prized collection of 1,490 manuscripts.

Now, researchers in city colleges allowed to use labs

After Panjab University (PU), now researcher scholars from colleges in the city have also been allowed to use the labs.

Orders regard the same were issued by the Department of Higher Education. However, researchers will have to talk to their guides before visiting their college during this period.

Researchers will have to follow all the guidelines while coming to college.
