Chandigarh tableau will not be seen on Rajpath, Delhi, this year on the occasion of Republic Day as all three tableaux created by the UT administration have been rejected by the central government. The administration has been trying to send its tableau in the Republic Day parade for the last five years.
This year, the administration had submitted three different themes for Chandigarh tableau: ‘Peace’, ‘Beauty’, ‘Bliss, blend of natural beauty and cycle tracks’, but to no avail.
These showed natural beauty as well as health and cycle tracks that are the lifeline of Chandigarh. According to sources, this proposal was sent for Chandigarh tableau to the Centre only after the approval of the UT Administrator.
Last year, the UT administration sent a proposal to on the themes of Modern Jail Burail and Sukhna Lake. Instead, the Home Ministry had asked to prepare a presentation on the World Heritage Capitol Complex, but this theme was also not approved.
Earlier, Chandigarh tableau was seen on Rajpath in 2016. It featured the Capitol Complex, Rock Garden and the greenery and quality of life of the city. It showed people and children celebrating picnics at Open Hand monument, Capital Complex amidst the greenery and in parks.
In 2018, the administration sent a Chandigarh tableau on the theme of the Capital Complex, Rose Garden and Sukhna Lake for the parade, while in 2017, the administration sent a tableau on the theme of the International Dolls Museum. Proposals are sought on different themes from all states and UTs for the Republic Day parade.
Two students from the city have been selected for the Republic Day Parade: Latika Bhardwaj and Joseph from Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 11, and Post Graduate Government College, respectively.
Initially, a total of 10 students, five girls and five boys, were selected from the city during the selection process.
