Meteorological Department issues yellow alert as Haryana in grip of cold

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert of dense fog in Haryana from December 23 to 25. Severe winters and cold wave will prevail in many districts of the state.

The residents got some relief from the cold on Monday due the sun. Ambala and Rohtak recorded the lowest daytime temperatures at 19.6 °C, while Narnaul touched 26.8°C.  Ambala’s night temperature was the lowest across the state at 3.3°C.

At some places, partial cloudy weather was also recorded on Monday, which slightly increased the night temperature.

Dr Madan Khichar, President of the Agricultural Meteorological Department of Haryana Agricultural University, said that from December 22 to 24, there is a possibility of a slight drop in night temperature and mist in the morning and late night.

With the constantly changing weather, the air quality index (AQI) has also started increasing. On Monday, the air was extremely bad in six districts of the state and AQI reached beyond 300. The highest AQI of 398 was recorded in Yamunanagar. Apart from this, it was 334 in Faridabad, 329 in Gurugram, 302 in Hisar, 300 in Kurukshetra and 312 in Rohtak. Mandikheda recorded the lowest AQI of 87.
