Chandigarh’s GST Collection on the Rise With an 18% Increase in March 2024

According to the report of the Ministry of Finance, there is the growth of 18% amounting to the collection of Rs 238 crore for March this year, which is a jump of Rs 36 crore from March 2023 when the collection was about Rs 202 crore

This surge in GST collection reflects a thriving economic environment and increased business activity, this collection also aligns with the national outlook for GST collection. March 2024 saw the second-highest monthly gross GST revenue collection ever at Ts 1.78 lakh crore, with a year-on-year growth of 11.5%. This national surge is attributed to a significant rise in GST collection from domestic transactions at 17.6%. The report also provided comprehensive insight into the GST collections for previous months as well. These insights revealed an upward trend in revenue generation.

For February the collection of GST surged by 12% amounting to Rs 211 crore, up from Rs 188 crore in February 2023. Similarly, even in December 2023, a 29% increase in collection was seen reaching Rs 281 crore

Even in November, a 20% increase in GST collection was observed in comparison to the previous year, while October reflected steady economic growth with a robust collection of Rs 389 core. Chandigarh GST collection has remained on the positive side as a whole despite a few fluctuations in growth rates. These numbers indicate consistent growth in Chandigarh’s economy. 

While the Ministry of Finance hasn’t revealed any specific details regarding the key factors behind this growth, the data provided highlights the significance of GST collection as a key source of revenue for the City Beautiful.

The major key players behind this consistent growth could be increased consumption, improved compliance, and government issues that streamlined tax administration. While the reasons for Chandigarh’s positive GST collection trend are unclear this consistent growth in GST collection is a welcoming sign for the city’s economic health. Nationally, India’s GST collection in March 2024 witnessed the second-highest ever at Rs 1.78 lakh crore.
