This year, to contain the spread of Covid and to maintain social distancing, number of firecrackers’ sites will be increased. According to sources, people will be able to apply for a temporary license of fireworks from October 26.
Officials of the administration said that this time too, licenses will be given at the same time as last year, as directed by the High Court.
Around 4 to 5 days time will be given to apply. After this, a draw will take place on November 4, around ten days before Diwali. This time also, the DC office will give a temporary license for the sale to only 96 people through the draw.
Last time, 1,900 people had applied for it. However, it is expected that this time the number of applicants may come down.
This time also, fireworks stalls will not be installed in front of the markets in the city. For firecrackers, space will be allotted at about 200 to 300 meters away from the main market.
Last time, firecrackers were sold at nine places, but this time, there has been a demand to set up firecrackers stalls in Sector 7, 15 and Dhanas.
In view of air pollution and noise pollution, shopkeepers will not be able to keep firecrackers higher than the prescribed standard.
Chandigarh Crackers Dealers Association has demanded the DC that the draw of the stalls should take place well in time so that they get enough time to complete the rest of the preparations. The association’s general secretary said that the production of firecrackers has come down considerably this year and the sellers are struggling a lot.
