Security heightened as authorities investigate fresh threat message targeting key government offices
After a spate of threat messages sent to schools in recent days, authorities on Monday received a fresh threat targeting the Punjab Secretariat, triggering heightened security measures at the vital government complex. The message was reported to senior officials, following which police and security agencies were immediately alerted.
As a precaution, security checks were intensified at all entry and exit points of the Secretariat, and surveillance within the premises was increased. Bomb disposal squads and dog squads were also kept on standby while a thorough search of the premises was carried out to rule out any immediate danger.
Officials confirmed that an investigation has been launched to trace the origin of the message and identify those responsible. Cyber and intelligence teams are examining technical details linked to the communication. Despite the security alert, government work continued, though employees were advised to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols.
Authorities said further action would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation, while assuring the public that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure safety and maintain normal functioning of government offices.
