Tesla to Open Showrooms in Delhi and Mumbai, Marking Entry into Indian Market

Tesla Inc., the US-based electric vehicle (EV) giant, is making significant strides toward its much-anticipated entry into the Indian market. According to recent reports, the company has finalized locations for its first two showrooms in India, marking a crucial step in its expansion strategy.

Showrooms to be Located in Delhi and Mumbai

Reports indicate that Tesla has selected Delhi and Mumbai as the sites for its initial showrooms. The Delhi showroom will be situated in the Aerocity area near Indira Gandhi International Airport, a prime commercial hub with proximity to luxury hotels, retail outlets, and multinational corporate offices. Meanwhile, the Mumbai showroom is expected to be located near the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), one of the city’s most prominent business districts.

Tesla had been scouting locations for its Indian operations for over a year. The company’s renewed push into India follows a recent meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, signaling potential government support for Tesla’s entry into the world’s third-largest automotive market. Previously, Tesla had delayed its India plans due to high import duties.

Showroom Specifications and Launch Timeline

Both the Delhi and Mumbai showrooms will reportedly span approximately 5,000 square feet. However, an official timeline for their inauguration has yet to be confirmed.

Sales Strategy: Imported Models First, Local Manufacturing Later

Tesla is expected to commence operations by selling imported electric vehicles through these showrooms. The company is likely to introduce popular models such as the Model 3, Model S, and Model Y in the Indian market. Future expansion plans may include local assembly or manufacturing, depending on market demand and regulatory considerations.

Tesla Begins Hiring in India

As part of its India expansion, Tesla has initiated the hiring process for various roles. The company has posted job openings for 13 positions on LinkedIn, covering areas such as customer service, operations, and technical support. The listed positions include Customer Support Specialist, Order Operations Specialist, Business Operations Analyst, Service Manager, Inside Sales Advisor, Store Manager, Delivery Operations Specialist, Parts Advisor, Service Advisor, Customer Support Supervisor, and Service Technician.

Tesla’s entry into India is expected to bolster the country’s EV market and contribute to its broader electrification and sustainability goals. More details regarding the official launch are awaited as the company progresses with its plans.
