ISRO Successfully Launches Earth Observation Satellite-8 from Sriharikota

In a significant achievement, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched the Earth Observation Satellite-8 (EOS-8) from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, on Saturday. The launch marked the third and final developmental flight of the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV), SSLV-D3.

ISRO Chief S Somanath disclosed that indeed, the mission was successful adding that the EOS-8 satellite was positioned accurately by the rocket. In a press conference, he said, “The SSLV third development flight is done and dusted, having launched SSLV-D3/EOS-08 into its predetermined position.”

It also involved launching DEMOSAT as planned, and the mission is one of ISRO’s efforts to develop and deploy small satellites. The SSLV-D3/EOS-08 mission will be put in place a Circular Low Earth Orbit (LEO) around 475 km above the ground level, at an angle of 37.4°. This 175.5 kg spacecraft has been designed for a mission length of one year since it is anticipated that its information will play an important role in applications such as soil moisture measurement and disaster response systems.

ISRO has successfully completed its SSLV development project, thereby facilitating technology transfers to Indian industry. The EOS-08 satellite along with the SSLV-D3 rocket represent an advancement in space technology that allows India to meet demands for earth observation data across diverse sectors.
