An allegation has been made against Puja Khedkar, a 2023 IAS trainee and she is facing charges of faking her identity in the selection procedure of UPSC as well as taking advantage of her authority. After investigating this for about one week, the state administration has submitted its findings to the centre.
A panel composed of one person from DoPT (Department of Personnel and Training) is looking at the investigation results compiled by the state General Administration Department. Manoj Dwivedi, who is an Additional Secretary at Dopt leads this subcommittee and has fourteen days for it to finish its work.
Questions about Khedkar’s Eligibility
Khedkar’s claim of belonging to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category and availing benefits for disabilities during the UPSC selection process is under scrutiny. The report raises doubts about her eligibility for OBC reservation as her father, a former civil servant, reportedly has assets exceeding ₹40 crore. Additionally, Khedkar reportedly refused to undergo mandatory medical tests to verify her claimed disabilities.
Accusations of Misconduct
Khedkar’s behaviour during her initial posting at the Pune Collectorate has also been called into question. The report details her use of a siren on her private Audi, a privilege not granted to junior officers. She also allegedly demanded a separate house and car, further raising concerns about her sense of entitlement.
The report mentions instances of Khedkar’s misconduct, including installing an unauthorized flashing light and state government emblem on her car and clashing with a senior officer over car usage. It also details her claim on the cabin of a senior colleague, Additional Collector Ajay More, and using her car for official duties.
Potential Consequences
Sources say Khedkar could face dismissal from the IAS if the allegations are proven true. Legal action for misrepresentation and hiding information is also a possibility.
UPSC Challenge and Training Suspension
It’s important to note that the UPSC itself challenged Khedkar’s selection, and a tribunal ruled against her in February 2023. Her training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie has been put on hold, and she has been instructed to report back to the academy by July 23rd.
