Two more bodies of Army troopers were recovered on Friday morning from the rubble of the landslide in Noney district of Manipur, taking the death toll to 10.Eight people — seven Army soldiers and a civilian — were killed after an Army post was hit by a landslide on the night intervening June 29 and June 30.
Rescue operation to trace around 50 missing people, including 23 soldiers, some railway officials and civilian labourers, trapped under the debris, resulted in finding two more bodies. So far, 13 soldiers and five civilian labourers have been rescued from the rubble, with some of them sustaining injuries.Search operation by the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Territorial Army, SDRF and the NDRF continue at Tupul. Ten columns have been pressed into service.A joint operational task force is coordinating efforts to remove the mud and boulders from the spot.A ‘Thorough Wall Radar’ is being inducted by air to detect the presence of those buried under the debris.On Friday morning, Eastern Army Commander Lieutenant General RP Kalita met the six injured Territorial Army personnel who were initially sent to Liemakong Military Hospital on June 30 and are now being provided medical aid at the Assam Rifles Hospital at Mantripukhri.
