Internet services still banned in 14 districts of Haryana, restored in only three districts

The Haryana government on Sunday restored internet services in Yamunanagar, Rewari and Palwal. However, the internet services remain suspended in 14 districts of Ambala, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Kaithal, Panipat, Hisar, Jind, Rohtak, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Fatehabad, Sirsa, Sonipat and Jhajjar, where the option of voice call is available.

There are a total of 22 districts in the state.

The government took this decision to keep the situation peaceful in view of the farmers’ agitation. “The Haryana government has extended the suspension of mobile internet services (2G/3G/4G/CDMA/GPRS), SMS services (only bulk SMS) and all dongle services, etc. provided on mobile networks except the voice calls in the territorial jurisdiction of the 14 districts,” the statement said.

The state government has decided to discontinue internet services to prevent the spread of propaganda and rumours through various social media platforms such as SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook Twitter, etc. Taking care of public safety, Haryana Home Secretary Rajiv Arora has ordered the internet services to be discontinued under ‘Rule 2 of the Temperary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency and Public Safety) Rules, 2017’.

All companies offering telecom services in Haryana, including BSNL (Areas covered under Haryana), will have to ensure compliance with this order. Any person found guilty of violation of these orders will be liable for legal action under the relevant provisions.
