Second phase of Corona vaccination drive begins in Chandigarh today

The second phase of the Corona vaccination drive in Chandigarh began on Tuesday. In this, 500 frontline health workers were vaccinated at the five centres just like the first phase.

As many as 100 health workers have been registered for vaccination in each centre. In the second phase, Dr Anuradha of Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 16, was the first one to be vaccinated at 9.30am. The vaccine drive will continue till 3pm.

In Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, the first vaccine was administered to Santodia Mohit while the second was given to Dr Arush Singla. However, there was negligence in the second phase of vaccination at GMCH-32 as no medical officer had reached the centre till 10:30am. Hence, the vaccination started under the supervision of nursing officer and data operator.

The Government of India had issued new guidelines regarding vaccination, according to which vaccination will be held on four days a week, ie Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Chandigarh.

On Saturday, 374 front-line health workers were vaccinated and no side effects were seen in anyone.

On the other hand, lowest vaccination rate was witnessed in Panchkula district as only 10% health workers came forward for inoculation against the target of 150 set by the health authorities.

According to data released by the Haryana Health Department only 16 health workers received Covishield vaccine at the three centres – Alchemist Hospital, Civil Dispensary, Sector 4, and Community Health Centre (CHC), Raipur Rani, – today, the second day of the vaccination programme.
