Delhi Traffic Police has started fining violators a hefty amount from December 15 in the national capital if a vehicle is found without the High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) and colour-coded stickers. The violators should be fined of ₹10,000 under the amended Motor Vehicle Act, however, the fine has been compounded to ₹5,500. At least 250 vehicles were challaned on Tuesday by the Delhi Traffic Police for the violating the new legislation.
Last month, Delhi government had resumed the online bookings of the High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) and colour coded stickers, which was halted due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Earlier, on November 16, the transport department released a notice that read, “General public is hereby informed that the installation of HSRP including the third registration mark (color-coded sticker) on new and old vehicles in the national capital territory (NCT) of Delhi is a mandatory requirement… The owners of old/ existing vehicles are advised to approach their concerned dealers (of their vehicle’s make) for getting affixed HSRP and or color coded stickers on their vehicles.”
To reach out to more and more travellers, the Delhi government had also increased the number of centres to 658 from 150 which will install the High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) in vehicles. Home delivery of number plates at a nominal amount of ₹100 to ₹200 was also commenced.
After booking, consumers will get real-time updates of each step via SMS. Applicants will be notified at least two days before the date of appointment so that they do not face any kind of disturbance.
