As many as eight staff members of Chandigarh Press Club, Sector 27-B, were found Covid positive during a check-up by a medical team of Chandigarh Administration. They were among the 116 people who tested positive for Covid-19 in the UT on Tuesday. Meanwhile, four people succumbed, taking the toll to 270.
Returning officer Sanjiv Shukla in a statement said that all those found positive were quarantined immediately and the bar and restaurant have been closed as a precautionary measure. He said that some rules have been framed keeping in view the present situation and all the members should follow these rules.
Elections of the press club are scheduled on November 29. Shukla said that the bar/restaurant will remain closed on the polling day and panels/contestants/ supporters will get only tea and biscuits. Senior citizens will get preference for casting vote and social distancing norms will be followed strictly. The polling will be held from 9am to 5pm for the 739 eligible voters. Besides the president and senior vice-president, vice-president I, vice-president II, secretary general and others office-bearers will be elected. The results will be declared on November 29 after 6pm.
