Lashana Lynch is the new 007 but not James Bond

There have been several speculations on who would play agent 007 ahead as Daniel Craig will be seen in his fifth and final outing as James Bond in No Time to Die. Now, actor Lashana Lynch has confirmed that she has taken over the mantle in “No Time to Die”.

In a recent news piece by Harper’s Bazaar, it is confirmed that Lashana Lynch will be the “first-ever female” to become 007. She is playing Nomi in the movie who enters the MI service after James’s retirement. However, it does not mean that she will be the new Bond.

Lynch’s 007 is going to bring a much-needed new perspective to the Bond franchise. In ‘No Time to Die’, her character Nomi is expected to pick up the title of 007 while James is living in exile in Jamaica. She told Bazaar that she worked with writer Phoebe Waller Bridge to ensure the character had “a fresh female perspective” that was “subtly drawn, believable, perhaps even a little awkward.”

The news originally leaked months ago following No Time to Die’s first trailer. It received backlash on social media platforms. She talked about the criticism that she faced. She said that she is a woman of colour, if it was another one like her cast in the role, it would have been the same conversation.

“For a week, she deleted her social-media apps, meditated and saw no one but family, while comforting herself with the knowledge that the aggressive comments were ultimately not personal,” said Yrsa Daley-Ward. “No Time To Die” is set to be in theatres on April 2.
