Clinical Delhi Capitals trounce CSK

Delhi Capitals registered their second win in the IPL 2020 by defeating the IPL 2019 finalists by 44 runs.

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, CSK bowlers could not make much of an impression early on as Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan scored fluently and reached 94 in the 11th over without losing a wicket. Shaw, who was later adjudged man of the match, was particularly harsh on the bowling as he raced to 64 off just 43 deliveries.

After the exit of the DC openers, rest of the DC batsmen batted well but were not able to capitalise on the solid foundation laid by the openers and the DC made 175/3 in their innings. That did bring to light the fact that the wicket was slowing down and it will not be easy for CSK to chase this total.

In response, CSK never got going and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Delhi Capitals put up a clinical performance and never allowed the CSK batsmen to break free. Rabada was the pick of the bowlers as he picked 3 wickets for 26 runs. Both the spinners, Axar Patel and Amit Mishra were on the mark at all times and managed to squeeze the run scoring.

Disappointed with his team’s performance, MS Dhoni said at the post match presentation,

I don’t think it’s a good game for us. The break in the next seven days is the best chance for us. I think we are lacking steam in the batting department. If you look at the bowling department, they are not at all consistent. Spinners have not come to the party yet. Rayudu should play the next match so he gives us the room to experiment with the extra bowler.

The win has catapulted DC to the top of the table with 2 wins from 2 matches.
