As the Sector 17 bus stand will resume services from Wednesday, bulk suppliers of vegetables and fruits have been shifting since Sunday evening from the temporary sabzi mandi site back to the old spot of Sector 26. Since the mandi remains closed on Monday, it will be set up by Tuesday.
The sabzi mandi was shifted to the Sector 17 bus stand on May 12 due to the rising Covid cases in Bapudham, Sector-26. Now, after 126 days, on the instructions of the administration, the vegetable market will again be in its old place in Sector-26.
The UT administration has decided not to allow retailers or common public to enter the vegetable market, permitting registered bulk or wholesale suppliers only. For the smooth plying of heavy vehicles for supply from other states, the administration has allotted separate timings to avoid congestion or rush.
“The sabzi mandi will function from 4am for auction of fruits and vegetables till 2 pm. No activity of sale and purchase will be allowed later. There will be total three entry and exit points. Permanent barricading will be done at two gates. The director health services will depute medical teams. The station house officer of Sector 26 police station will ensure round-theclock police deployment to restrict the entry,” read the UT order.
Earlier, the entire area of the mandi was sanitised by the municipal employees.
