‘Won’t allow NRC, CAA in Bengal’

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee hit the streets of Kolkata today and said she will continue her protests until the NRC and Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) are rolled back. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, today tweeted saying the violent protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act were “unfortunate and deeply distressing”. In another development, the Opposition parties united against the newly enacted citizenship law and condemned the police action in Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia on Sunday. Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad demanded a judicial inquiry in the incident, while CPM leader Sitaram Yechury questioned the absence of Home Minister Amit Shah.
