Wrestlers Bajrang Punia & Sangeeta Phogat to have 8 pheras in their wedding

India’s wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Sangeeta Phogat, who were engaged last year, will get married on November 25.

They were engaged in November last year and were planning to get married after the Tokyo Olympics. Punia said that it was his father’s dream that he should get married after winning a medal for the country at the Olympics. But, due to the pandemic, Olympics has been postponed and the wrestlers plan to get married in the coming days.

The couple is planning a simple wedding and wish to send out the message of social reform by saying no to dowry. Moreover, instead of the conventional 7 pheras, their wedding will have 8 pheras.

The eighth phera will be used to propagate the message of ‘save daughters’ and promote the idea of education for women. Bajrang Poonia said, “Dowry is a wrong practice and it is necessary to eradicate it from the society. For this, everyone has to make efforts. Though there is some change in the thinking of the society about women, but still there is a long way to go. Parents should think of their daughters as equals to the sons and encourage them.”
