Why badminton tournaments have not started while others sports have kicked off

While football, tennis, cricket (IPL 2020) and many other sports have gradually begun at the international level, Badminton tournaments still have not got off the block.

Badminton enthusiasts are feeling let down as international competitions keep getting postponed. Why is it that while other sports are on, badminton still seems some distance away.

The experts are of the view that while games like Football, Tennis and Cricket are played in large open spaces, they are relatively safer whereas Badminton, on the other hand, is played indoors in a smaller stadium and do not seem to be that safe.

There is also the issue of shuttle changing hands which can also be a potential cause for spreading infection.

Moreover, BWF has not been able to fully guarantee the players that they will be safe from infections. Players are worried about catching infections while in the warmup and practice areas as also when they are flying from their home countries to the tournament venues.

For players’ safety, it is better that the game starts only when the players feel confident enough, so that they are able to devote their hundred percent on the game rather than worrying about catching the infection.
