Weekend lockdown lifted in Chandigarh

After protests by businessmen and shopkeepers, Chandigarh Administration lifted the weekend lockdown on Friday. Now, shops and markets will remain open on Saturdays and Sundays.

According to sources, it was decided in the meeting that the weekend lockdown will not be imposed, although the odd-even concept will be applicable in some markets. Along with this, liquor shops and salons will be open.

UT Adviser Manoj Parida said there would be no ban on the movement of people or goods on weekends and curfew in the city would continue to remain in effect from 10pm to 5am.

Earlier, UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore had ordered the closure of all shops and establishments (except essential shops and services) on Saturdays and Sundays in the city until further orders. The decision was taken after a rise was witnessed in Covid cases.
