Residents of Mani Majra, Chandigarh have found the much-anticipated August 5 launch of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s 24-hour water delivery scheme to be a damp squib. Even with all of the excitement surrounding the inauguration, several places are still having problems with their water supply.
Residents of Modern Housing Complex, Gobindpura, and Indira Colony reported no change in their water supply timings, with the usual intermittent supply persisting. While the Smart City authorities attribute the delay to the stabilization phase of the project, residents are questioning the lack of transparency and preparedness.
An investment of Rs. 160 crore has been made in the project, which aims to serve over one lakh families with uninterrupted water. But the reality on the ground presents a different image. Locals are requesting information about the project’s schedule, the causes of the hold-up, and the actions being done to resolve the continuous issues with water delivery.

The event has brought attention to questions about the efficacy of such large-scale projects and the disparity between official declarations and actual implementation on the ground. It also underlines how crucial it is to communicate with the public more effectively, especially when there are significant modifications to essential services.
Residents are closely monitoring the project as it moves into its stabilization phase to see if the promised round-the-clock water supply materializes. The viability of putting comparable projects into action throughout the city will be determined by the outcome of this pilot project.
