Wait till next year for driving license

Problems being faced by those who have applied for a driving license are increasing due to the new system adopted in the wake of Covid pandemic. Now, one is receiving an appointment from Registering & Licensing Authority (RLA) for driving license after two months as all the dates for driving test are booked.

For instance, if someone applies for a driving license today, he will get an appointment only after December 26. If the window is not open then, then he will have to wait for next year.

As a precautionary measure, the RLA in May had decided to reduce the number of slots allotted for various works daily to nearly a half.

An RLA official said that earlier around 800 people used to visit on a daily basis. But now, only 400 people are allowed, that also in a staggered manner. As the number of people is high, the waiting list is getting longer. The time limit of the online appointment window, that used to open for two months, has now been extended. Coronavirus has changed the way Sector-17’s RLA functions. Now, only those people who have an online appointment are allowed inside the office. Apart from this, entry and exit points have been separated to for social distancing. Several counters have been opened inside the RLA to reduce crowd.
