Jitan Sahani, founder of the Vikassheel Insan Party (VIP), Mukesh Sahani’s father, was brutally killed at his residence in the Supaul Bazaar region of Darbhanga on July 16th. This has completely shaken the political world in the state.
Tuesday morning, Jitan Sahani’s body was found at his ancestral home, according to reports. The event was verified by Jagannath Reddy, the Darbhanga SSP, and a police probe is already in progress.
Former Bihar minister Mukesh Sahani is now in Mumbai and is anticipated to arrive in Patna after learning of the development.
The motive behind the murder remains unclear. While details are scarce, reports suggest Jitan Sahani may have been attacked with a sharp weapon.
Various leaders have expressed anger about the incident across political divides. Those criticising it first were the opposition leaders against the ruling party in Bihar, NDA, led by Nitish Kumar.
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) spokesperson Shakti Singh Yadav slammed the government, accusing them of disarray and failing to maintain law and order. He further expressed concern for the safety of the common people in Bihar.
RJD leader Mrityunjay Tiwari echoed similar sentiments, accusing the BJP-JDU government of presiding over a “Jungle Raj” and demanding answers for the crime. He highlighted the vulnerability of ordinary citizens if even prominent figures are not safe.
JDU officials denied the opposition’s charges, saying that a probe is still underway and that those responsible would face consequences. They asked the RJD chief, Tejashwi Yadav, to assist with the inquiry if he had any pertinent information.
Ramnath Thakur and Giriraj Singh, Union Ministers, reaffirmed the JDU’s position, promising to find and punish the offenders.
Mukesh Sahani has been on the NEWS for controversies for a while. Before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, there was controversy around a video that showed Sahani and Tejashwi Yadav eating fish while celebrating Navratri in a helicopter.
The tragic murder of Jitan Sahani casts a shadow over Bihar’s political climate. As the investigation unfolds, the people of Bihar await answers and assurance of safety from their leaders.
