Vaccination of front-line police personnel and municipal employees began on Wednesday at the two designated sites in Chandigarh. The Centre has identified 31,374 frontline workers in the city for Covid-19 vaccination.
On the first day, 150 frontline workers from the Municipal Corporation and the Police Department were identified by UT Health Department for inoculation. At Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, as many as 50 frontline workers from the MC were called, whereas 100 cops were called at Police Hospital, Sector 26.
Director general of police (DGP) Sanjay Beniwal commenced the vaccination drive today at 9.30am at the Police Line hospital. After this, he requested for another cop to get the vaccine first. He received the dose of vaccine after ASI Rajni Bala. He said that he was happy to get vaccinated and encouraged everyone to get vaccinated.
Director Health Dr Amandeep Kang said that additional centres were established for vaccinating the frontline workers. A centre was set up at the Police Hospital in Sector 26 for the convenience of the personnel. GMSH 16 already has two centres, where the healthcare workers received the vaccine. Dr Kang said that about 15,000 front line workers had been registered so far, of which 12,000 belong to the Police Department and the rest to the MC. Registration of frontline workers is still in progress whereas; healthcare workers cannot register now.
