UT Administrator flags off 11 electric buses in Chandigarh

UT Administrator, Banwarilal Purohit flagged off 11 electric buses today in the presence of Adviser to the Administrator, on commercial operations whereas the entire fleet of forty will be put on commercial operation by end of December, 2021.

These buses are being put on Express Route 551E- ISBT43 to PGI with limited stops at ISBT 17,Sector 16 Hospital and New PGI OPD . The express routes have been formulated keeping in view the minimum travel time for the commuters. For Second lot of forty electric buses e-tender has been invited and will be put on commercial operations in coming Financial Year.Further,  diesel buses by the decreasing detention count  are being deputed on two express routes l1E- ISBT-17 to Kharar via ISBT-mohali and SU4E- PGI-ISBT17-Railway station-ISBT PKL . These routes will be operated with 10-20 minutes frequency.

  1. Air Conditioning System with individual Air Vents
  2. Seating Capacity of 35 Passengers and 20 Standee.
  3. Passenger Information Screens at Front, Rear, Side and inside saloon Area.
  4. Pneumatically Controlled Passenger Doors.
  5. Panic Button in case of Emergency.
  6. Mobile Charging Points for each row of seat.
  7. Air Suspension at rear. 

The necessity of the replacement of diesel buses with electrical buses is to limit the reliance on diesel fuel and stressing on environment friendly transportation for the city of Chandigarh. Fully Electric Buses are one of the solutions for this purpose, which deliver zero tailpipe emissions and have the potential to offer solution to the air quality challenges of urban mobility in the 21st century. Accordingly Chandigarh administration intends to replace all local buses with the electric buses in a phased manner under the Green City theme, said officials.

Chandigarh Transport Undertaking is also taking variousinitiatives to ensure a reliable and efficient transport system. Efforts are being put in this direction by decreasing the detention level of buses in the depots so as to maximize the fleet availability on road/en-route. Also ITS enablement in the city bus operations will help to track the city buses in real time through Passenger Information Screens and Mobile App.
