In the year 2018, this rare variety of Assam tea was sold for ₹39,001 per kg for the first time in history and again in the year 2019 breaking all records it was sold for ₹50,000 per kg.

This year, the Gold Tea was bought by Vishnu Tea Company with the highest bid of ₹75,000 per kg, breaking all its previous records. This special Assam tea was purchased for their retail store, upcountry buyers and their eCommerce website: www.9amtea.com

Rajan Lohia, director of Manohari Tea Estate in eastern Assam’s Dibrugarh district said that this tea is manufactured from the finest second flush colonel tea buds, which are hand plucked only during the dawn. “They are plucked only during dawn to avoid exposure to sunlight. It offers aromatic, full-bodied and bright yellowish malty liquor,” he said.

Parth Lohia, director, Manohari Tea Estate, Dibrugarh, said, “This year, 2.5 kilograms of handmade Gold Tea was produced, out of which 1.2 kg was sold in the auction and the remaining will be available at select outlets including GTAC lounge as demand for one of the rarest teas in the world continues to grow.”

On August 13 last year, another specialised Assam Tea had created a record with Upper Assam’s Dikom Tea Estate selling its Golden Butterfly tea at a record price of ₹75,000 at the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre.
