Third phase of Covid vaccination drive commences at GMSH-16

The third phase of the Covid vaccination drive started at 9am on Thursday at Government Medical Specialty Hospital, Sector 16. Meanwhile, vaccination started at 11am at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER).

However, admission at Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, has been denied and both centres are being operated by the security guard.

According to sources, the Nodal Officer of immunisation has clearly instructed the guards that no person should be allowed to visit the covid vaccination centre on the fifth floor. Due to this, media was also not allowed.

Health director Dr Amandeep Kang said that the employees of the IT cell of covid vaccination are working continuously without leave. By Thursday afternoon, the team had sent messages to 200 health workers for vaccination.

Dr Kang said that from now on, vaccination sessions will be conducted for only three days a week: Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The decision was taken by the Health Department at its level.

In the second phase, health care workers in the city showed reluctance to the Covid-19 immunisation as the turnout dropped to 43%. The city had recorded a turnout of 75% on the first day of vaccination drive. On the second day, only 174 health care workers were administered the vaccine — 90 at the GMSH-16, 20 at the Civil Hospital-45 and 64 at two sites in the GMCH-32.
