The Chandigarh Golf Club is set to host the third edition of the Chandigarh Golf League starting September 12, with 21 teams vying for supremacy on the greens. The tournament, which will run until October 12, promises an exciting month of competitive golf.
Last season saw Captain’s 18 emerge victorious after an unbeaten run, clinching the title with a 4-3 win over Fairway Comets in a thrilling final. This year, the league introduces a new team, Seven Iron, replacing Sleepy Owls, which has opted out of the competition.
Following last season’s controversies, where incidents of player altercations marred the event, the Chandigarh Golf Club’s organizing committee has taken steps to ensure a smoother operation. The committee, led by chairman Dr Agnish Rajesh and co-chairmen Jawanda, HS Kang, and Chitwan Mann, has emphasized the importance of discipline and adherence to tournament rules. Dr. Agnish stated, “The club aims to provide an enriching experience and expects intense but respectful competition. Teams have been informed about the need to maintain discipline and avoid unnecessary interference on the greens. The response from teams has been positive.”
This year’s tournament will exclude outside club members, and neutral referees will oversee the matches to ensure fairness. Each participating team will consist of 18 players, including one player aged over 75 and one female player. The league features teams such as Canam Raptors, Captain’s 18, Chandigarh Gladiators, Fairway Comets, Golf Masters, and many more, totalling 380 players for the month-long event.
The Chandigarh Golf League will distribute a total prize fund of ₹33 lakh. The winners will receive ₹12 lakh, the first runners-up will earn₹8 lakh, and the second runners-up will be awarded₹5 lakh. Dr Agnish assured us, “The organising committee is committed to delivering a fair and exceptional experience for all participants this season. Team owners have agreed to all the established rules.”
As the tournament approaches, golf enthusiasts and participants alike eagerly anticipate a season of high-level competition and sporting excellence.
