UT administration has issued a tender to privatise the electricity department of the city. The administration has placed bid security of ₹10 crore and interested people can apply before 4pm on 31 December, 2020. Whichever company will be appointed by the administration will be responsible for distribution and retail supply of the city’s electricity.
The administration had prepared a request for proposal (RFP), after which the tender was issued and applications have been sought from qualified agencies. On Friday, the administration had informed about the RFP in the meeting of the empowered committee for privatisation, wherein a representative of the Ministry of Power and the Transaction Advisor and Advisor Manoj Parida were present.
At the same time, employees are opposing this decision of the administration. A trust will be created for the employees that will take care of the pension obligations.
