In a startling development, a 19-year-old girl named Shrishti has been taken into custody for the murder of her 60-year-old grandma, Geeta Devi. The young boyfriend of Shrishti was reportedly engaged in the crime.
The incident occurred on July 12th at Geeta Devi’s residence in Tagra Hasua village, Kalka, Panchkula. Neeru, Geeta Devi’s daughter, discovered the body upon arriving at the house and immediately contacted the police. Since no other family members were present then, suspicion quickly fell upon Shrishti, who had vanished along with her phone being switched off.
Following an investigation, police were able to locate Shrishti and her juvenile accomplice in Ramgarh, Panchkula. The boy, a native of Fazilka studying in Mohali, was reportedly in contact with Shrishti via social media for over a year and a half. Their plan, according to the police, was to elope together.
On the fateful day, the young man arrived at Shrishti’s residence armed with a knife. When Geeta Devi confronted them about his presence, a violent altercation ensued. Geeta Devi allegedly suffered around 35 stab wounds to her neck, stomach, chest, and waist as a result of the youths’ knife assault.
It is thought that Geeta Devi’s rejection of their connection served as the motivation for the crime. She had reportedly been living with her daughter-in-law and three grandchildren since the passing of her husband in 2020 and son earlier this year.
After they were apprehended, the youngster was placed in a juvenile home, and Shrishti was remanded to three days of police detention. At the Kalka police station, a case has been filed under Indian Penal Code Section 103 (1) (murder).
The authorities are still looking for the murder weapon and trying to piece together everything that happened before the tragedy. The community is reeling from this occurrence, which has sparked worries about the devastating effects of social media on developing minds.
