Former Chandigarh mayor Subhash Chawla, 66, has been appointed as new president of Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee (CTCC).
KC Venugopal, general secretary, All India Congress Committee, on Tuesday issued a letter on behalf of the party president, appointing Chawla as the president of local Congress unit.
“Congress president has appointed Subhash Chawla as the president of Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee with immediate effect,” a statement issued by the party said.
Chawla replaces Pardeep Chhabra, who has held the post for around six years. A two-time councillor, Chawla lost the last municipal election in 2016. Party High Command appreciated the services of the outgoing president Pardeep Chhabra.
