A stern warning has been given to student party leaders at Punjab University by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kanwardeep Kaur, who warned that they will be liable for any violent crimes or unlawful actions perpetrated by their members. This was declared at a university-led move to a preemption action staged ahead of the Panjab University campus student council elections projected for early next month.
In the meeting, attended by UT police officials and student party representatives, SSP Kaur emphasized the importance of maintaining order and peace during the election period. She made it clear that since the entry of outsiders or non-university guests has been barred, the campus should not be used for meetings with political leaders. The student parties were advised to keep mainstream political figures out of campus election events.
Furthermore, the SSP reminded the representatives of the Defacement Act, urging them to refrain from defacing university property, including buildings, walls, trees, floors, and poles. She also reinforced the prohibition of carrying weapons on campus, including those that are licensed.
DSP (Central) Gurmukh Singh, Sector 11 SHO Inspector Jaiveer Rana, Dean Students Welfare Professor Amit Chauhan, PU Chief Security Officer Vikram Singh, and hostel wardens were also present at the meeting.
The SSP’s directives are part of a broader effort to ensure a peaceful and fair election process, highlighting the police’s commitment to maintaining law and order within the university premises.
