An imported dose of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine against coronavirus will cost ₹995.40 in India, informed Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, which is manufacturing the vaccine in India. Sputnik V, which has an efficiency of 91.6%, is the third vaccine to be approved for use in India. The jab was developed by Russia’s Gamaleya National Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology.
The first dose of Sputnik V was administered in Hyderabad today as part of a soft launch by Dr Reddy’s. Dr Reddy’s Laboratories said the price of the shot can be lowered when domestic production begins. The price of the imported doses will include 5% GST per dose.
The vaccine is likely to be available in the market from next week, the Centre said on Thursday as the vaccine shortage in various states deepened and restrictions were brought in for vaccination.
The company said that more consignments of imported doses are expected over the coming months. The first consignment of imported doses arrived on May 1, and received regulatory clearance from the Central Drugs Laboratory, Kasauli, on May 13.
“The Company is working closely with its six manufacturing partners in India to fulfill regulatory requirements to ensure smooth and timely supply,” Dr Reddy’s Laboratories said in the filing.
