Speeding Bus Rams Milk Tanker on Lucknow-Agra Expressway, Leaving 18 Dead

At least 18 people were killed in a horrifying tragedy that occurred along the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in the Unnao region of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday morning. A double-decker bus heading from Motihari, Bihar, to Delhi, collided violently and catastrophically with a milk truck.

The bus was pulverized in the crash,” according to District Magistrate of Unnao Gaurang Rathi. The news reports painted a horrific picture of bodies strewn on the ground among twisted steel, broken glass, and scattered possessions.

Authorities sent police and emergency responders to the location right away. Their main priorities were removing victims from the debris and taking the injured to adjacent hospitals so they could receive medical attention. According to preliminary accounts, the collision injured 19 people as well.

Although the reason of the incident is still being looked into, preliminary findings point to the bus driver perhaps speeding.

Government representatives have expressed sorrow and sympathy for the victims of the tragedy. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has announced that it will provide up to ₹2 lakh to the next of kin of deceased persons and ₹50,000 will be provided to those who have been injured in the accident.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences on social media, stating, “My deepest condolences are with the grieving families. District officials have been instructed to expedite relief efforts at the site.”

Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak visited the scene later in the day to assess the situation and oversee efforts on the ground. He revealed that most of the injured passengers originated from Bihar and that his administration is coordinating with the Bihar government to ensure proper care.

“Injured are being shifted to higher-level hospitals,” Pathak said. “All hospitals close to Unnao are being put on alert. The trauma centre of KGMU in Lucknow is also put on alert.”

It is said that he has directed officials from the transport department and district administration to keep a careful eye on the issue.
