Under the Smart City project, a special park will be constructed in the opposite the gurdwara in Sector 22, Chandigarh, for the differently abled children.

The Smart City Department is going to issue its tender next week and the company will have to prepare the special park in 9 months. The tendering company will operate it for five years.

Chandigarh Smart City Limited (CSCL) general manager NP Sharma said that the special park that has been selected for this scheme as it has plenty of space for vehicles parking. The cost of this park (to be built on 0.65 acres of land) is ₹1 crore 75 lakh.

Such parks have been built in Chennai and Bhubaneswar, which were reviewed by the authorities.

Sharma said that this park will have EPDM rubber flooring, which protects the children if they fall down. Railings of different colours and sizes will also be installed to increase the brain capacity of the children. Apart from this, wheelchair-bound children will be able to focus on their fitness so that their arms and shoulders are strengthened.

Plants with medicinal properties will be planted in the park. This way, visually impaired children can identify the trees and plants by their scent. There will also be embossed letters on some sports equipment, so that they can learn something while playing.

The park will also have these facilities: small basketball court, music pipe with drum, merry-go-round chair, two-seat swing, spring rider, slide, etc. Officials say that although every child comes is accompanied by some guardian, some employees of the Municipal Corporation will also be deployed. They will be trained and will provide information to children about which equipment to use.
