A little electrical spark at Vivek High School in Sector 38, Chandigarh, on Tuesday morning, caused widespread alarm and forced the school to announce a vacation. The event occurred while children were coming, and parents were still present outside the school grounds.
Principal Renu Puri swiftly addressed the problem, stating that it was a “small spark,” but the school decided to proceed with caution. “We did not want to take any chances, so we switched off the electricity and called the fire brigade, which arrived within two minutes,” the school’s principal explained.
While some students had already entered the building, others were still on their way in. The school declared a holiday to guarantee the safety of all students and staff. “It was a minor sparking, the kind that often takes place in houses, but we did not want to risk anything with our children, so we closed the school,”.
The event generated tremendous turmoil outside the school as parents, worried about their children’s safety, sought information and attempted to pick them up. Police and school officials were dispatched to handle the issue and restrict traffic near the school.
In an official message to parents, the school noted, “Please be advised that owing to an electrical short circuit, there will be no electricity in school. So children will be picked up from school as soon as possible and buses running will ensure that students reach home safely.
The school, which had recently celebrated its annual day, took the precaution of testing all wiring on the grounds to verify everything was in working condition before permitting pupils to return.
Despite the tiny nature of the event, parents complimented the school’s prompt and careful reaction, which prioritised their children’s safety.
