Spain and Germany in same group, defending champs France to meet Denmark

Defending champions France learned their opponents as the draw ceremony for FIFA World Cup 2022 at the Doha exhibition center on Friday as much-criticised Qatar gears up to host football’s biggest showpiece event.

France, who won the title in 2018, will face Denmark and Tunisia in Group D at the World Cup, which gets underway from November 21. Hosts Qatar, drawn in Group A, will take on Senegal, Netherlands and Ecuador.In what seems to be the Group of Death, former champions Germany and Spain have been pitted against each other. They also have Japan and another qualifier in Group E. Group G was also one of the toughest, pitting five-times World Cup winners Brazil against Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon.Lionel Messi’s Argentina will face Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Poland while Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal Ghana, Uruguay and South Korea.Meanwhile, the 15th-ranked Americans were drawn Friday to start against the European playoff winner on November 21, the tournament’s opening day in Qatar, then meet No. 5 England on Nov. 25 and close the group stage against No. 21 Iran.No. 39 Scotland meet 27th-ranked Ukraine in June in a playoff delayed because of Russia’s attack on Ukraine. The winner meets No. 18 Wales for a World Cup berth, a match also scheduled for June.
