The very first semi-final of T20 World Cup took place yesterday (June 26th), involving South Africa and Afghanistan who played at Brian Lara Cricket Academy situated in Trinidad and Tobago. The victory was wholly in favor of South Africa who won by nine wickets affirmatively paving their way into finals.
South Africa’s Batting Masterclass
South Africa opted to field first after winning the toss, and their bowlers justified the decision. The pace attack, led by the fiery Marco Jansen (2/17), restricted Afghanistan to a modest total of 56 runs. The Afghan batsmen struggled to handle the early swing and seam, with wickets falling at regular intervals. Rashid Khan (21 runs) was the lone bright spark, but even his valiant effort couldn’t prevent a batting collapse.
Clinical Chasing by the Proteas
In reply, South Africa chased down the target with remarkable ease, reaching 60 runs in just 8.1 over. Marco Jansen was deservedly awarded the Player of the Match for his stellar performance. His raw pace and accuracy upfront rattled the Afghan batting line-up. He picked up two crucial wickets, including the dangerous Mohammad Shahzad, setting the tone for a dominant South African display.

Looking Ahead to the Final
With the South Africans already through to the final, the sense of restiveness for the finale burgeons. India or England will be their opponents in the final match to be decided today. This is the South Africa’s chance to mark their name in history by winning the World Cup while their rivals too have an ambition of stopping them from retaining their title.
