As different parts of Himachal Pradesh have started receiving snow, the number of passengers travelling in the Himalayan Queen running on the Kalka-Shimla Heritage track has started increasing. On Monday, 91 passengers were booked to travel from Kalka to Shimla, out of which 79 enjoyed the journey.
Railways estimate that there will be an increase in the number of tourists who enjoy travelling on the Kalka-Shimla Heritage track. When the special express train was started again after the gap due to lockdown, the train ran empty from Kalka to Shimla on the first day. On the second day too, only seven passengers had travelled in the train, but now gradually the number of passengers is increasing.
The Kalka-Shimla railway track, which was built during the British era in 1903, is 96 kilometres long and has a 2.6 feet narrow gauge track which goes through 18 railway stations and has over 880 bridges and more than 100 tunnels. It was declared a world heritage railway line by UNESCO in 2008.
