Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala has been accused of showing cockfights and weapons in his new song ‘Bai-Bai’, a violation of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
On the complaint of Chandigarh-based Professor Pandit Rao Dhanerwar, the Animal Welfare Board has issued a seven-day notice to the singer under the Animal Cruelty Act, 1960. If he does not respond to the notice, a criminal case will be filed against him and if the accusation is proved, Sidhu Moosewala can be imprisoned for three months under the said Act.
In the complaint, it is mentioned that all such activities are against the principles and regulations ordered by the Supreme Court and such kind of songs need to be banned.
Also, the Animal Welfare Board of India has sent a notice to Gold Media, the directors and the singer. They have been directed to file a written response within seven days.
The singer has made headlines not only for his songs but also for being on the incorrect side of the law, be it an FIR for promoting violence or hurting the sentiments of the general public.
Earlier, Sidhu Moosewala was engulfed in a controversy when he commented in one of his songs about Sikh warrior Mai Bhago. The song provoked anger in the Sikh community and an order was issued by the Jathedar of Shri Akal Takht. Sometime later, a video clip showing Moosewala shooting an AK-47 at a firing range in Badbar village of Barnala district had gone viral on social media on May 4. Sangrur district police had registered a case under Section 188 of IPC and Section 51 of the Disaster Management Act against Moosewala and eight others.
