Chandigarh Traffic Police has started a special initiative for senior citizens in the city so that they do not face any kind of inconvenience on the road. On the lines of learner driver ‘L’ stickers, the Chandigarh traffic police will provide special stickers with hologram to senior citizens to alert other road users.
“Two stickers will be given for both the front and rear windshield. It will make other drivers more careful around seniors and also help bring down incidents of road rage,” said Palak Goel, deputy superintendent of police, traffic administration.
“We will hand deliver the stickers to the houses of the seniors if needed,” said Goel.
Chandigarh has around 60,000 senior citizen drivers. The application process has already started on the eSaathi app of the Chandigarh Police and registrations will open within this week. To apply, one needs to upload the senior citizen card or Aadhaar details besides the vehicle registration certificate. The sticker will be given only to those who have the vehicle registered under their name and drive it themselves.
SP Traffic Ketan Bansal said that elderly people find it difficult to drive in traffic jams and road accidents also occur. In view of this, a sticker has been launched. The ‘Senior Citizen Helpline’ stickers will be put on both the front and back of the vehicles.
