Sangrur SSP Swapan Sharma today said that police are working round the clock to keep track of activities of people involved in heinous crimes and have arrested 11 criminals involved in organized crime, intergang rivalry, burglary and thefts during the past 12 hours. A Kala-Kachha gang active in targeting isolated houses to steal, burgle and attack people in Dhuri is also busted.
Divulging more details about the cases, the SSP said that since all the arrested persons are hardcore criminals involved in heinous criminal activities, their arrest will help in reducing the graph of crime in district.
Swapan Sharma said that a gang of four Kala-Kachha members was targeting secluded homes by discreetly obtaining information in the garb of cloth sellers during day-time and then attacking the same homes during night hours. He said that their kingpin Anwar Kumar-resident of Indira Colony, Machhiwara is now in police custody. His initial questioning unveiled modus-operandi of this gang and it has also come to light that they had stolen material in homes of Jainpur, Changli and Farwahi villages falling under Sadar Dhuri police station. The gang members were selling jewelry to a jeweler in Hoshiarpur whose name too will be added into the FIR, the SSP said. He added that the rest of the members of this gang—Shekhar alias Shankar of Dhar Khurd in Himachal Pradesh, Duggo, Avinash and Anju (all male), residents of Kangra in Himachal Pradesh too will be arrested soon.
In second cases wherein four arrests were made in Dhuri, the SSP said that the accused persons are already involved in several cases of NDPS Act and police have recovered a 32 bore pistol with two live cartridges. “Their arrest and subsequent interrogation led us to a man in Madhya Pradesh who was selling illegal weapons,” the SSP further said. He pointed out that to nip crime in the bud, the illegal weapon seller too has been identified in Madhya Pradesh and Sangrur police will take stringent action against him as well. The accused are identified as Tarandeep Tarni of Mulowal in Dhuri, Harpal Singh Ghuggi, Gurwinder Singh alias Godi of Tohana in Fatehabad and Ajay of Garhi in Narwana (Haryana). A scooter has also been recovered from their possession and a fresh case of NDPS Act has been registered against them at Chhajli police station.
Three arrests are made in the third case where the accused were doing burglary, stealing and taking away whatever they can lay their hands upon from residential areas of Dhuri by threatening people at gunpoint. They admitted to have looted Rs 1 lakh cash, 10 tola gold jewelry from a house situated in the jurisdiction of city Dhuri police station around a week ago. One illegal weapon has been recovered from their possession. The arrested accused are identified as Mandeep Singh alias babbu, Lakhvir of Janta Nagar and Sudhir Kumar of Dhuri. One pistol, costly jewelry and one motorcycle are recovered from their possession. Lakhvir is already facing a case of cheating and forgery. A fresh case in this regard is registered against them at Dhuri police station.
In the fourth case of intergang rivalry, the SSP stated that three arrests were made. One desi katta of 315 bore, 5 live cartridges, one scooter bearing registration number of Mohali are recovered from the possession of the arrested accused. Their interrogation too has led police to the seller of illegal weapons in Madhya Pradesh. The accused are identified as Jaswinder alias Jassi of Bhammawaddi who is already facing one case of NDPS Act, Ajay alias Robin of Sangrur and Satgur Singh of Chatha Sekhwan who is previously booked in six different cases of Excise and NDPS Act. One desi katta of 315 bore, 5 live cartridges, one scooter bearing registration number of Mohali are recovered from their possession. A case under the Arms Act has been registered against them at Longowal police station. SSP pointed out that the name of arms sellers in MP too would be included in the FIR.
