SAD launches kisan march to Chandigarh Today Oct 1

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) began three separate kisan marches on Thursday from Sikhism’s three Takhts (seats of temporal authority) in Punjab to Chandigarh to hand over a memorandum, addressed to the President, to Punjab governor VP Singh Badnore.

The SAD is appealing to President Ram Nath Kovind to convene a special session of Parliament to amend the recent farm laws.

SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal led one of the march from which started from Akal Takht in Amritsar while his wife and former Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal led another procession which commenced from Takht Damdama Sahib in Bathinda.

Senior leader Prem Singh Chandumajra and Daljit Singh Cheema led the third march from Takht Keshgarh Sahib in Anandpur Sahib.

Interacting with mediapersons in Amritsar, Badal said, “All organisations need to unite in this fight for the farmer. This struggle is for the common cause of Punjab.”

The SAD had pulled out of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) last week after Harsimrat quit the cabinet on September 17 over the passage of the farmer bill. She did so amid protests by farmers in Punjab. Before starting the march to Raj Bhawan in Chandigarh, Badal paid obeisance at Golden Temple and offered prayers at Akal Takht. Harsimrat Kaur Badal paid obeisance at Takht Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo before launching the march and said the BJP-led government had compromised on the interest of farmers of Punjab.
